National Urban Indian Nonprofit Leadership Academy

The National Urban Indian Nonprofit Leadership Academy as envisioned by DTI is a 24-month training initiative in nonprofit management, organizational development, and leadership development for a total of 200 urban Indian leaders: 50 executive directors, 50 emerging leaders, 50 board presidents and 50 youth leaders from 50 urban nonprofit organizations involved in twelve key fields which comprise comprehensive and integrated urban Indian community building:

  • Aging/Senior Citizen Services
  • Alcohol & Substance Abuse Services
  • Arts & Education
  • Culture
  • Education/K-12
  • Family & Children’s Services
  • Health/Human Services
  • Housing/Community Development
  • Tribal Relations
  • Veterans Services
  • Workforce Development/Diversity
  • Youth & Gang Prevention Services
Across the board, urban Indian nonprofits are the glue that hold urban Indian communities together.

More than one type of service area is often covered by urban Indian nonprofits which typically assume multiple areas of program responsibility. This is particularly true of newer or under-staffed nonprofits and those in small communities.
