DTI Next Generation of Community Building Leaders Program

DTI is designing and has begun to organize a Next Generation of Community Building Leaders Program, focused especially on developing leaders of color as they begin to assume positions of greater responsibility and authority in community building organizations. DTI is designing and pilot testing program offerings for the next generation of leaders.

A working group has been drawn from Bank of America's Neighborhood Excellence Leadership Program for Emerging Leaders to serve as an advisory committee regarding the elements of this new program.

When the 60 emerging
leaders in Bank of America’s
Neighborhood Excellence
Leadership Program met
for the first time in Chicago,
Steven McCullough was one of six finalists in the
national search by Bethel New Life to replace retiring executive director and founder Mary Nelson.

I would be judged relative to the other prestigious finalists. The confidence displayed in me, and the wise counsel I received from the other 59 emerging leaders and the DTI trainers significantly raised my confidence and renewed my commitment to go for it."

At the next workshop, with the 120 emerging leaders
and the executive directors all together, Mary Nelson announced that Steven had been selected as Bethel New Life’s new executive director.

The other emerging leaders selected him as their representative to speak during the final graduation
event.

Steven acknowledged the “magical” impact that the Chicago workshop had on him personally and on
his ability to successfully secure the position.
